Yoakum Community Hospital Clinches CIHQ Accreditation: A Pledge to Enhanced Patient Safety and Quality Care

The commendable dedication of Yoakum Community Hospital towards prioritizing patient safety and delivering superior quality care has been recognized through the Hospital Accreditation awarded by the Center for Improvement in Healthcare Quality (CIHQ). This prestigious award not only stands testament to the Hospital’s adherence to CIHQ’s rigorous standards but also ensures its compliance with the preconditions set forth by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

A noteworthy snap-shot of the exhaustive, unexpected on-site assessment that took place between November 18th and 20th at YCH illustrates the comprehensive scope of the evaluation process. It entails the detailed observation of care practices, comprehensive review of medical records, extensive staff and patient interviews, and a thorough tour of the hospital premises. Richard Curtis, CIHQ’s Chief Executive Officer, praised the hospital for its accomplishment, signifying the mutual goal of CIHQ and the hospital in uplifting the quality of community care. Tiffany Hintze, YCH’s CEO, called attention to the significant achievement of garnering CIHQ accreditation, expressing pride in YCH’s diligent team.

Central to CIHQ’s unique assessment process was its stress on fostering collaboration and furthering education, aiming not only to ensure compliance but also to solidify Yoakum Community Hospital’s culture of patient safety and aid in constant enhancement of the hospital’s patient care and community service. Data from the Texas Hospital Association (THA) reveals a total of 91 Critical Access Hospitals in the state. Interestingly, Yoakum Community Hospital is amongst the privileged list of sixteen, holding the esteemed CIHQ accreditation.

The successful survey is the embodiment of the hospital’s unwavering commitment, reflected in its routine updates of policies, robust internal audits, dummy surveys, and amplified efforts in fortifying documentations and care processes. A focus on evaluating emergency preparedness, life safety, infection prevention and patient safety was the fulcrum of these endeavors, while knowledge sharing across departments was highly encouraged. Tiffany Hintze credits this tremendous success to the combination of seamless communication, relentless efforts of the team and the shared commitment to their patients and the community.
