Utah’s very own Intermountain Medical Center in Murray has made its mark on Newsweek’s 2024 World’s Best Hospitals list, securing a noteworthy 76th position out of more than 2,400 hospitals worldwide. The institution’s achievement was second to none in Utah and demonstrates the qualitative healthcare services and dynamic patient care being offered at the center. The list objectively evaluates hospitals across the globe, spotlighting the superior ones based on a varied mix of methodologies that assess vital aspects such as safety measures and quality of care, thereby serving as a reliable reference for patients and families seeking the best healthcare options. Ralph Jean-Mary, CEO of Intermountain Medical Center, expressed immense pride and satisfaction for his hospital being recognized by renowned publication Newsweek.
Enthusiastically appreciating the relentless hard work displayed by the healthcare professionals at the medical center, Jean-Mary identified this accomplishment as an acknowledgment of their remarkable efforts. The list, garnered from an exhaustive study of information from over 2,400 hospitals across 30 countries, factored in medical expert surveys, patient to doctor ratios, and patient satisfaction surveys. Intermountain Medical Center, with an overall score of 68.16%, was particularly lauded for receiving the Infection Prevention Award and Patient Experience Award. The medical center has gained reputation over the past three years as one of the nation’s top 50 cardiovascular hospitals, given its exemplary heart care, a recognition acknowledged by Fortune and PINC AI, a national healthcare quality firm. The Murray-based medical center has also displayed excellence in the field of transplants.
A strikingly successful number of 414 transplants were recorded in 2023, comprising 182 liver transplants, 198 kidney transplants, 30 heart transplants, and 4 kidney/pancreas transplants. Pioneering efforts in healthcare have led the Intermountain Health Transplant Program to break its own record for adult transplants for the fifth time, and 2024 looks promising for a sixth consecutive record-breaking year. The medical center’s staff and doctors attribute this success to their unique patient-focused approach to care, which Jean-Mary confirms is a testament to the devotion of the 6,000 individuals working tirelessly at the Intermountain Medical Center campus. Intermountain Health has also adapted to the changing times by extending its healthcare services beyond Murray and reaching out to all residents in the Salt Lake Valley. Clinicians have embraced telehealth technologies developed over two decades at Intermountain Health, which saw a surge in popularity during the pandemic. According to Jean Mary, daily challenges are met with a determination to continuously improve, using external benchmarks to understand performance, with patient outcomes being their foremost priority.
