The UPMC Williamsport campus, part of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, has recently been recognized by the Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania (HAP) through their 2025 Excellence in Patient Safety Recognition program. Designed to honor hospitals within Pennsylvania that have showcased low rates of common hospital care-associated infections, including catheter-associated urinary tract infections, this program is a reflection of commitment to patient safety and quality healthcare provision.
The accolade is not lightly received – being a top-performing hospital in such a critical area requires an unwavering focus that extends to every corner of the team, from the physicians and nurses to the support staff on the ground. UPMC Williamsport has built a culture rooted in patient safety, with every member playing a vital role in the creation of this safe environment. The heartening recognition among the top hospitals in Pennsylvania is both an affirmation of their hard work to date, and a motivator for continued commitment to advancing the care provided to their community and patients alike.
Among the recipients of the 2025 Excellence in Patient Safety Recognition were 22 hospitals, each selected based on their performance in the previous year. The identification of top-performing hospitals was carried out using data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Healthcare Safety Network and should they have performed above the mean standardized infection ratio in three key measures, including central line-associated bloodstream infections, catheter-associated urinary tract infections, and Clostridioides difficile infections.
HAP, under the leadership of its President and CEO Nicole Stallings, is proud to recognize the Pennsylvania hospital teams that have demonstrated their commitment to continuous quality and safety enhancement, and who have realized outstanding results. Their top priority of maintaining high-quality, safe care for their communities has proved to be a successful strategy indeed.
