To resolve this issue, Newsweek has allied with Statista to produce the World’s Best Hospitals 2026 ranking. This eighth annual installment of the ranking aims to highlight leading hospitals across the globe, presenting country-specific rankings to suit readers’ geographical needs.
The current evaluation examines hospitals across 32 countries using various criteria such as population size, life expectancy, standard of living, hospital density, and the availability of credible data. The evaluation took account of hospital quality metrics, expert recommendations, existing patient experiences, and the Patient-Reported Outcome Measures Implementation Survey (PROMs). PROMs are standardized questionnaires filled by patients reflecting on their functional well-being and life quality.
This year’s methodology has expanded its scope by including the Philippines and Turkey. It also increased the weightage to hospital quality metrics and incorporated new accreditation, quality, safety, and patient experience data across multiple countries. Notably, the role of PROMS was amplified through more robust weighting and an updated Implementation Survey.
Out of more than 2,500 evaluated hospitals, top honors were bestowed upon Mayo Clinic-Rochester (Rochester, Minnesota), Toronto General-University Health Network (Toronto), Cleveland Clinic (Cleveland), Karolinska Universitetssjukhuset (Stockholm), and Massachusetts General Hospital (Boston).
