UCI Health: A Global Leader in Infection Prevention and High-Quality Care

UCI Health has emerged as a renowned center for its outstanding efforts in infection prevention. This recognition, awarded by Newsweek, solidifies UCI Health’s standing as one of the World’s Best Hospitals for 2024. UCI Health is anyone but a newcomer to this level of acknowledgment. Chad T. Lefteris, the CEO and President of UCI Health expressed his delight at the institution’s ongoing recognition. He attributed their success to an unyielding dedication to patient care, observance of the highest health standards, and a tireless community commitment.

Newsweek compiled its 2024 World’s Best Hospitals list in collaboration with Statista, a reputable data analysis company. This rigorous evaluation protocol was used to assess medical institutions across thirty countries, leveraging four core metrics to determine rankings. These accomplishments certainly draw attention to UCI Health’s exceptional performance as Orange County’s sole academic health system – a provider of superior everyday care.

UCI Health has a notable track record of accolades, further validating the excellent care they provide. In 2023, the esteemed healthcare safety and quality body, The Leapfrog Group, distinguished UCI Health with its Top Hospital Award – a highly commendable recognition in U.S healthcare, given to only 132 hospitals nationwide. Vizient Inc’s 2023 Bernard A. Birnbaum, MD, Quality Leadership Annual Ranking proudly placed UCI Health in the top ten national performers, also awarding it a five-star hospital status. On top of these, UCI Health has sustained a U.S. News & World Report ranking among the U.S.’s best hospitals for 23 consecutive years.

Aligning towards a shared vision, UCI Health stands as a beacon of commendable healthcare in Orange County and the only academic health institution in the region. Offering accessibility through primary and specialty care offices throughout Orange County, its primary hub is the UCI Medical Center. The 459-bed, acute care hospital is recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of America’s Best Hospitals for 23 consecutive years. The Medical Center provides an array of services including tertiary and quaternary care, ambulatory and specialty medical clinics, behavioral health, and rehabilitation services.

It also houses Orange County’s only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center, a high-risk perinatal/neonatal program, and American College of Surgeons-verified Level I adult and Level II pediatric trauma center, a gold-level 1 geriatric emergency department, and a regional burn center. Serving almost 4 million people across Orange County, western Riverside County, and southeast Los Angeles County, UCI Health continues to raise its standard of care, marking a robust presence in the healthcare landscape.
