Two Victoria Hospitals Reach Patient Safety Pinnacle: Understanding the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade Results

Victoria is basking in the limelight this spring, boasting not one, but two hospitals that have been awarded an ‘A’ rating in the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, an esteemed national report that scrutinizes hospitals across the United States on the basis of patient safety. These accolades are not easy to come by, and are predicated on critical factors such as heightened infection prevention measures and improved surgical outcomes. The two providers that clinched the ‘A’ grade this year are Citizens Medical Center and DeTar Healthcare System – North.

Citizens Medical Center is the standout star, rebounding from a meager ‘D’ and ‘C’ grade in 2022 to a satisfactory ‘C’ in 2023. The upward trajectory continued with a ‘B’ in 2024, culminating in the coveted ‘A’ grade this spring of 2025. This impressive turnaround stands as testimony to the hospital’s commitment towards enhancing patient safety and represents a significant stride forward for the community skilled health care provider.

DeTar Healthcare System – North closely follows suit, showcasing a steady pace of improvements. After a fluctuating spell between ‘B’ and ‘C’ grade since 2022, the establishment finally clinched its highest-ever grade, an ‘A’, in 2025.

However, it was not all good news as DeTar Healthcare System – Navarro was not able to keep up with the advancements of its peers. After securing a ‘B’ grade in 2022, the provider has been persistently stuck with a ‘C’ grade for three continuous years now, begging for crucial introspection. The Leapfrog grading system takes a variety of aspects into consideration, including surgery care, sanitation, communication, and preventing errors, thus providing grades from A to D.

Even though providers within Victoria managed to shun the lowest grade this year, ten hospitals within Texas had to reckon with a ‘D’ grade, thereby underlining the intense competitiveness and critical importance of these safety benchmarks in modern healthcare.
