Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare (TMH) and HCA Florida Capital Hospital, two leading hospitals in Tallahassee, have secured impressive scores in the twice-yearly Leapfrog Group Hospital Safety Rating for the spring season. TMH notably achieved a ‘B’ grade for the first time, marking its highest rating from the system in the past ten years. In the fall of 2015, TMH had received a ‘B’ while its peak score was an ‘A’ obtained in the fall of 2014.
Mark O’Bryant, CEO of TMH, confidently anticipates another ‘A’ grade on the horizon for the hospital. O’Bryant based this expectation upon the preliminary review of the available data, expecting an uplift in the upcoming fall ratings. Similarly, HCA Florida Capital Hospital also received commendable ‘B’ for the spring 2025 ratings report. These two hospitals were part of the approximately 3,000 acute care facilities surveyed nationwide for Leapfrog Group’s Hospital Safety Grade report.
This biannual report evaluates hospitals based on their efficacy in preventing errors, accidents, injuries, infections along with other crucial parameters. The data for this evaluation is collected from both public documents and materials submitted by the hospitals. Praising the improved rating, Jana Iezzi-Tumblin, Vice President and Chief Improvement and Analytics Officer at TMH, remarked that the current ranking more accurately showcases the quality of care provided by them, reinforcing the hospital’s commitment to patient safety.
Expressing pride not only in the high grades but also in the relentless effort put forward by their team, Jana indicated that the hospital’s continuous commitment would ultimately lead to better patient experience. Meanwhile, in a different hospital safety ratings report, HCA was acknowledged with a 2025 Patient Safety Excellence Award™ from Healthgrades, marking its sixth year in a row being ranked among the top 5% nation-wide, in respect to patient safety.
This award further solidifies HCA Florida Capital Hospital’s dedication to clinical quality and the provision of exceptional patient experiences. ‘Recognising the Instrumental contribution of our hospital team members and providers, we are honoured to receive this remarkable award,’ stated Dr. Trey Blake, Chief Medical Officer.
