Southcoast Health Celebrates Global Recognition for Infection Prevention Practices and Rankings for 2025

Massachusetts-based Southcoast Hospitals Group, which includes Charlton Memorial, St. Luke’s, and Tobey Hospitals, has made its mark on a global scale, being listed in Newsweek’s ‘World’s Best Hospitals 2025.’ The health system has consistently shown high standards over the years, and this marks their seventh consecutive year of recognition. This consistency has warranted the status of an ‘All-Time Winner’ – a testament to their unwavering commitment to the community. In addition to the overall recognition, Southcoast Health also obtained special acknowledgement for its performance ‘above average’ in CMS infection prevention, an achievement it has earned twice since 2019.

David O. McCready, the President and CEO of Southcoast Health, highlighted the importance of their accomplished staff in achieving these milestones. The quality provided by the dedicated care teams has remained exemplary, ensuring their rank in the list for seven straight years. McCready also expressed his gratitude to everyone contributing to the health system’s success.

Newsweek’s ‘World’s Best Hospitals’ is an important resource for patients looking to make an informed choice about healthcare facilities. It is compiled in collaboration with Statista Inc., an international data research firm. Besides helping patients choose, the list also serves as a performance benchmark for hospitals. The 2025 list boasts well over 2,400 hospitals from 30 countries. Among them, only 420 American hospitals made the cut. From Massachusetts and Rhode Island, 15 hospitals earned a spot, and Southcoast Health was one of the 10 recognized for their excellence in infection prevention.

Dani Hackner, MD, MBA, the Senior Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer for Southcoast Health, stated that as a part of a comprehensive strategy for high reliability, they take healthcare-acquired infection prevention earnestly. It requires concerted efforts of a diverse team covering the entire health system – from leadership to clinicians and operators. Continual strides are made in maintaining a culture of safety and ensuring community health.

The ranking’s methodology, developed by Newsweek and Statista, is meticulously designed to validate the quality of data and ranking. More information about this and Southcoast Health can be accessed through the provided links.
