Revolutionizing Post-Viral Syndrome Diagnosis: Virax Biolabs’ Collaboration with University of Manchester

Virax Biolabs, renowned for its pioneering work in diagnostic technology, is at the forefront of a breakthrough development aimed at early detection and treatment of chronic, post-viral syndromes like long COVID. Their novel approach revolves around an advanced platform for T-cell immunology, dedicated to tracking the mechanisms of immune dysfunction, predominantly involving T-cell activity, that characterize these persistent conditions.

To effectively combat them, a standardized diagnostic tool is required which can address this complex chronicity, something current tests designed to detect acute infections fall short of. The initiative by Virax Biolabs seeks to bridge this gap.

In their quest for enhanced diagnostics, Virax Biolabs has recently formed an alliance with the University of Manchester. Their collaborative effort involves a comprehensive study intended to explore in-depth the immune responses peculiar to COVID-19 patients, particularly those manifesting symptoms of long COVID. Using Virax Biolabs’ unique T-cell assay, this study proposes a longitudinal assessment of selected samples, aiming to identify distinctive phenotypic T-cell profiles in patients with long COVID.

This collaboration marks a significant stride towards comprehending the immune dysfunction inherent in long COVID. It lays the groundwork for more focused diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for patients grappling with post-viral syndromes.

During an interview with Infection Control Today® (ICT®), Virax Biolabs COO, Dr. Nigel McCracken, shared insightful remarks on the distinctiveness of long COVID symptoms. He pointed out parallels with other post-viral conditions such as Myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME), and even untreated Lyme disease, emphasizing the need for early detection and targeted therapeutic procedures.

In related news, Virax Biolabs also announced a partnership with Europa Biosite to commercialize ImmuneSelect in the UK and Ireland. Hear the whole conversation in this informative interview.
