Revolutionizing Infection Prevention: Introducing APIC’s PolicyPro for Streamlined Policy Management

Infection preventionists (IPs) find an innovative solution to time-consuming policy creation with the introduction of PolicyPro, a product of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC). PolicyPro was announced at the 2024 APIC Annual Conference & Exposition in San Antonio, Texas.

This subscription-based platform provides a library of ready-made, evidence-based infection prevention and control (IPC) policies for healthcare organizations. Crafted by APIC’s IP experts, the platform accommodates customization and management of these policies according to each healthcare organization’s specific needs. Initially focused on acute care and hospital policies, the platform plans to extend into long-term care and ambulatory categories by late 2024 and 2025, respectively.

Presently, the platform houses 28 premade policies specifically for hospitals and provides a cost-effective annual subscription offering. All policy templates are thorough, well-referenced, and carry customization instructions. The content on PolicyPro is diligently reviewed and updated in line with the newest regulations and guidelines. New policies are routinely added as developments arise, ensuring subscribers have consistent access to the most recent content.

During an interview with Infection Control Today® (ICT®), Heather Saunders, MPH, RN, CIC, of Johns Hopkins University and Stephanie Mayoryk, MAS, BSN, RN, CIC spoke about the features of PolicyPro and the enormous potential of time saving for IPs. In late 2024, APIC plans to introduce ‘Premium’ functionality to the platform, facilitating collaborative policy development within single facilities, while ‘Enterprise’ functionality is slated for 2025, allowing for policy standardization across multiple facilities within healthcare systems.

The work of APIC and its team has ingeniously streamlined the process of IPC policy and procedure creation, management, and customization, allowing IPs to focus more time on their primary task – fighting infections.
