The Kaduna State Government has made a resonant move towards enhancing the quality of healthcare in the region by initiating the refurbishment of the Sir Patrick Yakowa Memorial General Hospital in Kafanchan. This event marks an ambitious stride as this refurbishment project is the first within the last two decades. The ambitious undertaking spearheaded by Governor Uba Sani, is a crucial element of his SUSTAIN agenda, which is focused primarily on uplifting the healthcare delivery system throughout the state.
The refurbishment project encompasses a comprehensive review of critical infrastructure within the hospital. Factors under consideration include the rectification of design faults, improving drainage systems, streamlining staff and patient progression through the hospital, formulating improved strategies for infection prevention, and enhancing energy efficiency. The significant undertaking started off in April 2024 with an audacious objective of elevating the state’s healthcare facilities to international standards.
The underlying intent of this refurbishment project is to minimize the need for Kaduna residents to seek medical attention in neighboring states. By enhancing the quality of local healthcare provisions and increasing their capacity, the government hopes to provide adequate care within the state itself.
Further extending his commitment to healthcare, Governor Uba Sani, represented by Dr. Abdulahi Ahmed, Managing Director of the Kaduna State Agency, embarked on inspections of ongoing road projects within Kafanchan. The Governor underscores his administration’s commitment to ensure timely completion of these projects, thereby facilitating easier access to healthcare facilities.
Moreover, the government is also investing in the remodeling, reconstruction, and re-equipment of six general hospitals across the state. These projects emphasize sustainable solutions like employing renewable energy sources and ensuring long-lasting infrastructure improvements that would stand the test of time and serve the people of Kaduna State for generations to come.
