The journey to acquiring Leapfrog’s esteemed Top Hospital distinction involves an initial ranking within the top names through the Leapfrog Hospital Survey, which measures performance against the highest benchmarks in quality of healthcare and patient safety. Achieving top-tier performance in one of the categories namely Children’s, General, Rural, or Teaching Hospital, is the next essential step.
In the year under consideration, out of more than 2,400 hospitals nationwide, only 156 made the cut for Leapfrog’s Top Hospital Awards. This included 73 Top Teaching Hospitals and 52 Top General Hospitals. Remarkably, Lancaster Medical Center emerged as one of merely two hospitals in Pennsylvania, and the lone candidate from Lancaster County to be named a Top General Hospital.
