New Jersey Pristine: Six Hospitals Among World’s Best on Newsweek’s List for 2024

Newsweek’s annual ranking of the World’s Best Hospitals charts a new high for New Jersey, with six of its hospitals featuring among the elite 412 globally. Known for highlighting outstanding healthcare service providers since its inception in 2019, this year’s list evaluated data from a whopping 2,400 hospitals across 30 countries. The selection process involved an exhaustive online survey of over 85,000 medical professionals, complemented by post-treatment patient survey data. Factors such as patient-doctor ratios, hygiene standards, quality of living, patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), and population size influenced the hospitals’ final scores.

Leading the pack from New Jersey and claiming the coveted first spot statewide is Morristown Medical Center with a score of 70.63%. It has received two prestigious accolades, namely, the Infection Prevention Award and the Patient Experience Award from Newsweek. The center is notably renowned for its excellent cardiology, geriatrics, ENT, obstetrics & gynecology, orthopedics, and pulmonology departments.

Registering a close second on Newsweek’s list from the state with a score of 69.72% was Hackensack University Medical Center. It houses the eminent John Theurer Cancer Center and has been rated top in six specialty areas. Remarkably, it stands as New Jersey’s exclusive nationally ranked institution for neurology, neurosurgery, and urology.

Valley Hospital, scoring 65.75% on Newsweek’s scale, prides itself on its comprehensive spectrum of diagnostic and treatment services, catering to both adults and children. Overlook Medical Center, scoring 65.12%, and Englewood Hospital, scoring 63.30%, both won Newsweek’s Infection Prevention Award. Overlook is particularly celebrated for its Atlantic Neuroscience Institute while Englewood has a gamut of awards and accolades including ‘Top Hospital’ by Jersey’s Best Magazine.

Closing the top six from New Jersey, Monmouth Medical Center scored 62.04% and was also awarded Newsweek’s Infection Prevention Award.
