Monmouth Medical Center Honored as One of the World’s Best Hospitals for Third Consecutive Year

Monmouth Medical Center (MMC), located in Long Branch, NJ, continues to earn global recognition for excellence in healthcare, securing its place on Newsweek’s coveted list of ‘World’s Best Hospitals’ for the third year running. This recognition was announced on April 22nd, in the presence of distinguished NJ Assembly Members Margie Donlon and Luanne Peterpaul, who marked this significant achievement by presenting a Joint Legislative Resolution prepared with Senator Vin Gopal.

The Newsweek’s ‘World’s Best Hospitals’ is a highly-respected accolade that evaluates over 2,400 medical institutions across 30 different countries. Of these, only 414 US hospitals made the cut; amongst them, just six hail from New Jersey – MMC being one of the honored few.

This high-profile award is the result of an intricate evaluation process carried out by Newsweek and Statista Inc., a leading provider of consumer and market data. In addition to its prestigious placement, MMC received an additional distinction this year – World’s Best Infection Prevention Hospitals – which evaluated US hospitals that exceeded national averages across six measures.

Above all, the Newsweek recognition seeks to guide patients and families in identifying high-quality care providers. The methodology behind creating this list is highly rigorous, encompassing recommendations from over 80,000 healthcare professionals from around the world. The process also takes patient satisfaction surveys into account, along with key performance indicators such as patient safety, hygiene measures, and quality of treatment.

These selection criteria were updated for the 2024 list, putting greater weight on hospital quality metrics to align more closely with medical key performance indicators. Another novel feature of the 2024 assessment was the introduction of Patient-Reported Outcome Measures – these provide insights into patient perceptions of their health, gleaned via standardized questionnaires.

Recognitions like this, according to Eric Carney, President and CEO of MMC, spotlight the team’s hard work, their unwavering commitment to excellence, and the center’s strict adherence to patient safety, with MMC holding the top rank for most Leapfrog A’s for patient safety in the region. Newsweek lauds the consistency of hospitals on their list, signifying their constant strive for medical innovation, attracting top talent, and providing exceptional patient care.
