The turning point came during an epidemiology of infectious disease class at the University of Iowa. A guest lecturer from the university’s Infection Prevention program delivered a talk that piqued Angel’s curiosity. For the first time, she was introduced to the concept of Infection Prevention as a distinct and essential field within healthcare. The idea of combining her love for microbiology with practical, impactful work in public health resonated with her deeply.
Motivated by this newfound interest, Angel met with the professor who had given the lecture and decided to undertake her master’s practicum with the Infection Prevention program. This experience proved to be transformative. As she delved deeper into the field, Angel experienced a “light bulb” moment, realizing that Infection Prevention perfectly aligned with all her passions and interests. She knew almost immediately that this was the profession she was meant to pursue.
From that moment on, Angel committed herself to a career in Infection Prevention, a decision that has guided her professional journey ever since.
