The annual Quality Awards by the Kentucky Hospital Association recently lauded seven hospitals in Kentucky for their commitment to patient care, their innovative approach to improving safety, and their strong leadership in cultivating a culture of quality. The recipients of the Quality Awards were recognized across seven distinct categories, covering a wide range of healthcare settings and approaches.
In the Long-Term Acute Care category, Select Specialty Hospital – Central Kentucky was recognized for its innovation in the insulin administration process. They were applauded for utilizing sustainable and novel solutions to enhance patient care.
The award in the Critical Access category went to the Deaconess Union County for their initiative focusing on the rapid identification and treatment of stroke patients within the Emergency Department, showcasing their commitment to process improvement.
In the Acute Care category for facilities with less than 100 beds, the award was given to UofL Health – South for their project that significantly enhanced patient experience scores. Within just a six-month period, they were successful in improving these scores by 20 percentile points.
The Acute Care category for hospitals with 100-250 beds recognized CHI Saint Joseph Health – Saint Joseph East for their initiative aimed at enhancing SEP-1 bundle compliance. This project successfully mitigated the risk for sepsis-related morbidity and mortality.
Baptist Health Corbin, a hospital with greater than 250 beds, won the award in their category for their project designed to improve outcomes for patients admitted to the emergency department with severe sepsis and septic shock. They not only reduced mortality rates but also significantly exceeded the national goal for compliance rates.
In the Hospital Systems category, the award went to UofL Health for their program developed to enhance the care provided to suicidal patients.
Beyond these Quality Awards, the Kentucky Hospital Association also recognized several categories for exceptional poster presentations. The winners were photographed with KHA’s Senior Vice President of Data, Operations, and Innovation, Melanie Landrum. Categories and winners included; Social Determinants of Health/Population Health/Health Equity/Readmissions (Whitesburg ARH Hospital), Patient Safety/Safety Culture (T. J. Regional Health), Infection Prevention/Sepsis (Norton Hospital), Quality Leadership/Strategic Development/AI (Baptist Health Richmond), and Mental Health/Substance Use/Suicide Prevention (UofL Health).
These awards highlight the continuous commitment of these healthcare providers in improving patient safety and enhancing the quality of care delivered. Each project showcased not only served to improve current patient outcomes but also to shape hospital standards and practices for the future.
