Infection Prevention Leadership: An Overview of Robin Miller’s Appointment as EMS Liaison at HCA Florida Aventura Hospital

HCA Florida Aventura Hospital, an American College of Surgeons (ACS) Verified Level II Trauma Center, has recently appointed Robin Miller as its Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Liaison. Miller steps into the shoes of her predecessor, Jack Swerdloff, who has been promoted to the position of burn education and outreach coordinator at HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, a sister institution within the same network.

Miller is a seasoned professional in the field of emergency medical services and emergency room nursing. Having amassed over three decades of experience within Miami-Dade County, Florida, she has rendered robust contributions in the acute care setting before her tenure at Miami Dade Fire Rescue.

There, Miller broadened not only her nursing application but also significantly impacted occupational health and infection control nursing. Her achievements encompass the introduction of innovative health and safety programs and other key initiatives, initiation and orchestration of injury prevention educational sessions, and the successful advocacy for infection control protocols and response plans.

Miller’s competence and leadership were further recognized as she served as a paramedic and firefighter for Miami Dade Fire Rescue, subsequently advancing to the roles of Lieutenant, Captain, and ultimately Battalion Chief from 2002 to 2018. Carolyn Hunter, the Chief Operating Officer of HCA Florida Aventura Hospital, expressed her delight at Robin joining their team, emphasizing the importance of maintaining resilient relationships with first responder partners.

HCA Florida Aventura Hospital has consistently delivered excellent critical care, as evidenced by its ranking within America’s top 100 Hospitals by Healthgrades, two years in a row.

Robin’s educational background includes holding a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Florida Atlantic University, an Associate of Science in Nursing degree from Miami Dade College, and additional certifications from the Emergency Management Institute of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The facility she is joining, HCA Florida Aventura Hospital, is part of HCA Florida Healthcare, which is recognized as Florida’s lead healthcare provider. With nearly 77,000 employees, HCA Florida Healthcare’s vast network across the state includes 49 hospital campuses and over 450 additional care sites.
