Honoring National Infection Control Week: Innovations and Collaborations in Infection Prevention and Control

This week, Canada commemorates National Infection Control Week (NICW), a dedicated period aimed at highlighting the critical role of infection prevention and control in healthcare. Set from October 14 – 18, institutions including hospitals, long-term care facilities, and industry pioneers like CloroxPro Canada deliberately utilize this time to review and evaluate their infection prevention and control measures taken throughout the year, especially in anticipation of the cold seasons associated with increased public space illness incidence.

Infection Prevention and Control Canada (IPAC) has aptly themed this NICW ‘Prevent with Intent’. This represents a significant move to strategize the implementation of discernible infection prevention and control interventions, equipping Canada more effectively against future epidemics, outbreaks, and illnesses.

As stated by Bilal Demachkie, Business Director, CloroxPro Canada, IPAC’s mandate throughout the year includes the creation of cleaning and disinfecting protocols, distributing educational resources and courses, and bringing innovative ideas to Canadians in the infection control field. NICW provides an opportunity to recognize the work achieved in this domain, to pinpoint areas requiring strengthening, and to express gratitude towards those diligently working in this crucial area. CloroxPro is an active supporter of IPAC’s efforts and has engineered programs benefiting its partners with the needed learnings for teams safeguarding some of the most at-risk populations.

A testament to their commitment is CloroxPro’s lunch and learn initiative. This program, designed after assimilating top-recommended protocols and insights from IPAC’s Annual National Conference, aims at disseminating those substantial learnings to organizations like hospitals and long-term care facilities. In October, CloroxPro presented the program at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie, Ontario, to an audience of over 40 infection control workers.

CloroxPro’s presence at industry events and its collaboration with professionals in the field is highly valued, as it allows for the synthesis of vital insights for the infection prevention and control teams who are unable to attend such events. The lunch and learn sessions also foster collaboration among organizations, promoting learning from collective experiences, and the strategic integration of systems in alignment with industry standards.

Besides the IPAC lunch and learns, CloroxPro extends its expertise to long-term care facilities and will participate in the Ontario Long-Term Care Association’s ‘This is Long-Term Care’ Conference, scheduled from October 20 – 22, 2024, in Toronto.
