The Hamilton Memorial Hospital District (HMHD) is celebrating a notable achievement, radiating pride as their Laboratory has won The Joint Commission’s esteemed Gold Seal of Approval® Accreditation. This accreditation stands as a symbol of merit, epitomizing the sustained commitment of the organization towards delivering patient care of superior quality and safety. The pursuit of excellence saw its fruition after an exhaustive, unheralded review undertaken by The Joint Commission’s survey team that started on March 4.
The review process included an examination of the lab’s compliance to stringent standards in vital areas like patient care environment, leadership, infection control and prevention, and medication management. The rigorous accreditation process of The Joint Commission is founded on standards born out of evidence gathered from respected healthcare practitioners, experts, patients, and scientific literature reviews. This extensive evaluation equips healthcare organizations to evaluate, analyze, and enhance their performance, ensuring the pinnacle of care for their patients.
As part of the review, the surveyors also conducted face-to-face interviews and made onsite observations. Ken Grubbs, the Executive VP of Accreditation and Certification Operations, and Chief Nursing Officer at The Joint Commission says, ‘As a healthcare accreditor, our goal is to facilitate an enhanced quality of care that is safer, fairer, and more compassionate across varying care settings. The Outpatient Services Director at HMHD, Farrah Boyd has spoken of her contentment with the accreditation process and stated that ‘the review was intense and thorough which required the participation of not just the laboratory staff but all of HMHD. The hospital is incessantly striving to provide comprehensive and superior care to our community, and this resultant accreditation proudly signifies the dedication of our professionals in the laboratory.’ The HMHD Laboratory operates its outpatient services from Monday to Friday from 7 am to 5 pm, and on Saturdays from 7 am to 11 am, while emergency laboratory services can be availed round-the-clock.
