This fall, seven Delaware hospitals underwent the Leapfrog assessment process.
ChristianaCare hospitals, located in Stanton and Wilmington, were awarded ‘A’ ratings, indicating the highest standard of safety measures. These two hospitals thrived particularly on metrics relating to preventing harm to patients, maintaining critical care standards, and successful infection prevention. These achievements highlight the focus these establishments place on ensuring patient safety and bolstering quality healthcare outcomes.
St. Francis Hospital, also situated in Wilmington, took home a ‘B’ rating, displaying strength in upholding patient rights and healthcare equity. This facility was also commended for its substantial performance in delivering critical care. In contrast, Bayhealth campus in Kent, Dover has been assigned a ‘C’ grade. Although scoring high in patient equity and rights, the facility encountered minor challenges in delivering nursing care, prompting the average rating.
Also evaluated was Bayhealth’s Sussex Campus in Milford, noted for improving from a ‘C’ to a ‘B’ grade within this year. Its superior metrics in medication safety were particularly praised in the latest report. Recent noteworthy changes include TidalHealth Nanticoke in Seaford dropping from an ‘A’ to a ‘B’. Despite fluctuations in patient rights and equity metrics, it continues to display excellent maternity care.
Finally, Beebe Healthcare in Lewes, still in the process of recovering from a ‘D’ rating in early 2024, obtained a ‘C’ rating this year. Although they experienced some challenges in pediatric care, the facility maintained superior standards in preventing healthcare-related infections.
The recent rankings by U.S. News and World Report highlighted the exceptional performance of Delaware’s Nemours Children’s Hospital in its national children’s hospital rankings, ranking 8th for pediatric orthopedics and placing in the Top 50 for most other categories. Moreover, it ranked 8th in a regional evaluation.
