Celebrating Excellence: The Medical City Leads in Infection Prevention and Healthcare Innovation

A beacon of quality healthcare, The Medical City (TMC), garnered five prestigious accolades at the Healthcare Asia Awards 2025, cementing its status as a global player in the domain of specialised health services delivery. The awards conferred were: Hospital of the Year – Philippines, Public-Private Healthcare Partnership of the Year – Philippines, Patient Safety Initiative of the Year – Philippines, Secondary Hospital of the Year – Philippines, and the Primary Care Provider of the Year – Philippines.

TMC, a celebrated leader in paediatric liver transplantation, has facilitated 15 successful cases against a backdrop of a robust partnership with the Philippine government. This collaboration underpins the Pediatric Access to Liver Transplantation Programme, extending life-saving transplantations to underserved children at no cost. Furthermore, TMC initiated a critical agreement with Rizal Medical Centre in early 2025, heralding an intensified commitment to liver transplantation; benefiting both adult and paediatric patients through resource pooling and shared expertise.

TMC also marked its seventh consecutive Joint Commission International (JCI) reaccreditation in 2024, with its Acute Myocardial Infarction Programme securing the JCI Gold Seal of Approval for exceptional cardiac care outcomes. This makes TMC one of the rare entities worldwide with this distinguished recognition. Its pioneering and lifesaving procedures such as the mechanical thrombectomy carried out on a 105-year-old patient – the oldest recipient recorded for this treatment – underscore TMC’s mission to push boundaries.

Medical tourism is another domain where TMC’s impact spans globally, thanks to its partnership with the Department of Tourism. With a comprehensive array of specialised services like cancer care, cardiology, maternity, preventive health, and emergency medicine, TMC caters to a vast international clientele.

In addition to its cutting-edge healthcare services, TMC is deeply committed to community health initiatives. Its Hope Mobi-Clinic extends free breast cancer screenings to underserved communities, and the healthcare institution has partnered with government bodies and non-profit organizations to provide essential medical services to child labor victims. Demonstrating a holistic and sustainable approach to child welfare, the healthcare provider integrates medical assistance with social services, promising long-term recovery and empowerment to these vulnerable children.

Post recognition at the Healthcare Asia Awards in 2024, TMC has continued to evolve its facilities and operations resiliently in response to the changing healthcare landscape. In the previous year, it has realized the setting up of 12 new clinics, the expansion of four existing facilities, and the refurbishment of 22 others. Each clinic offers meticulously planned and carefully strategized services, from primary healthcare to specialty services, all enabled by a continuously trained and dedicated workforce.

TMC’s ‘Safety Starts With Me’ Campaign, a central part of its tertiary care facility at Clark, has bagged the Patient Safety Initiative of the Year – Philippines award. This campaign emphasizes the vital role of hand hygiene in creating a compassionate and safe healthcare environment. The multiple hand-hygiene campaigns launched as part of this program have led to an increase in hygiene compliance within TMC, signifying the adoption of healthier practices by its healthcare community.

Notably, TMC Iloilo’s partnerships with neighboring provinces and its collaborations with the largest intermediary for Filipino nurses in Germany, Globogate, underscore its efforts to bridge healthcare gaps. Its partnership with the Iloilo City Government to create a resilient and accessible healthcare system, inclusive of mass vaccination programs and the establishment of a COVID-19 community satellite hospital, further emphasizes this commitment. In recognition of these significant strides in improving access to healthcare, TMC Iloilo was honored as the Secondary Hospital of the Year – Philippines.

The Healthcare Asia Awards celebrates hospitals that are raising the bar in the industry through ground-breaking initiatives and significant contributions to their communities.
