CDC Updates Vaccination Guidelines for Adults Aged 60 and Above with Focus on Respiratory Syncytial Virus

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has refreshed its guidelines surrounding the vaccination of Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) for older adults. This significant update primarily affects adults who are within the 60-74 age bracket with an elevated risk for RSV. In addition to this, all individuals aged 75 and over are now recommended to receive a single dose of the vaccine from leading pharmaceutical companies – GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), Pfizer, or Moderna.

As per these revised guidelines, it’s crucial to note that those who have already received a dose of the aforementioned vaccines are advised not to seek another dose. Such a step ensures an effective population-wide management of RSV risk, balancing both broad coverage and vaccine resources.
