Each year, an informative report is publicized detailing the quantity of infections in each category and offering a comparison of the hospital’s performance against national averages. This comprehensive report serves as a valuable tool, not only facilitating public reporting but also aiding hospitals in data collection efforts that contribute towards enhancing patient care. In the latest report for calendar year 2024, it was revealed that Alabama’s hospitals superseded the national performance level in three integral infection-related categories, a testament to the efficiency and effectiveness of their infection prevention strategies.
On a more granular level, the state excelled in controlling rates of catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs), central line-associated blood stream infections (CLABSIs), and surgical site infections post-colon surgeries, though the performance on abdominal hysterectomies was on par with national averages.
