They have inputted their own prescribing guidelines, antibiotic resistance data, and infection control isolation policies into Firstline’s app. This reservoir of information will then guide healthcare providers in determining the best course of action for treating specific infections, while also putting a lid on their spread within hospital settings.
To foster ease of access and convenience in their hectic schedules, providers at NYC Health + Hospitals simply have to download the Firstline app on their smartphones or access it via a hospital computer. Highlighting the urgency of this matter, recent advisories from both the New York State and City Health Departments have pointed to an augmentation in antimicrobial resistance, prompting providers to discontinue prescribing the antibiotic ciprofloxacin for invasive meningococcal disease post-exposure prophylaxis.
